The Legendary Birds quest, as the name implies, is the quest to obtain the three Kanto legendary birds.
This quest is meant to be for the late game, and as such, is not recommended for beginners.
However, beginners may start to make preparations for when they are ready to complete this quest.
Preparations
Before starting the quest, make sure you have the following:
- A Pokémon with the ability Cloud Nine
- A Pokémon with the ability Shadow tag
- A surf mount
- 6 level 100 Fire type Pokémon
Once all of these have been acquired, you are ready to begin the quest.
Walkthrough
Shamouti Island
To begin the quest, you must head to Shamouti Island. This can be done by talking to Sailor Sam at the Vermilion City Docks.
Once you reach the island, find the Pokémon Center and speak with Melody. She will ask you to retrieve 1 orb from Ice Island, Fire Island, and Lightning Island. Melody recommends to head to Fire Island first.
Fire Orb
Head North of Shamouti Island to Shamouti Seaway, there will be a viscous storm that prevents you from going further. This is where a Pokémon with the ability Cloud Nine will be needed. Note that this will be needed only once, meaning you do not have to bring Cloud Nine every time you wish to pass here.
Once the storm has been weakened, grab your 6 Fire type Pokémon, and start to make your way to Fire Island. To reach said island, head north from Shamouti Island to Shamouti Seaway, keep going north to Seaway Vein, then head west to Seaway Vein Extension, further west lies Fire Island Seaway, and north of that is Fire Island.
Fire Elder
Make your way to the top of the mountain and you will find the Fire Elder. He will challenge you to a battle, but you are only allowed to use Fire type Pokémon. Once he has been defeated, you will obtain the Fire Orb.

Lightning Orb
Lawrence IV
Once the Fire elder has been beaten, you will have to beat another boss. This one, however, has no type stipulation. Head back to Shamouti Island and grab whichever 6, level 100, Pokémon you wish. Head north of Shamouti Island to Shamouti Seaway, then continue to Seaway Vein, and on an island there will be Zapdos and Moltres. Once you land, you will be teleported to a strange room with a single NPC, he will challenge you to a battle.

After the second battle, search the wrecked ship for the Lightning Orb. Once found, Melody will appear with a Slowking and will teleport you back to the Pokémon Center in Shamouti Island.
Ice Orb
Articuno
For this part, you will need a Pokémon with the ability Shadow Tag.
To reach the Ice Island, head north of Shamouti Island, go north from Shamouti Seaway, then north again through Seaway Vein, keep going north from Ice Island Seaway, and finally you will reach Ice Island.
When you reach the island, go left and up the stairs. Waiting there is Articuno. After defeating it, it will drop the Ice Orb.
Melody
Now that all 3 orbs have been collected, speak to Melody in Shamouti Island. Behind Melody is Lugia. When spoken to, Lugia will thank you and depart, leaving a Silver Wing for you to collect. With this, the quest is complete.
Catching the Birds
Once the quest has been finished, there are additional requirements to fight each bird. You can catch them in any order you wish and all three are catchable. With each bird you catch, the requirements for the next one will increase.
- Articuno will need Ice Gems and Smoochum(Must be your OT Pokemon)
- Zapdos will need Electric Gems and Elekid(Must be your OT Pokemon)
- Moltres will need Fire Gems and Magby(Must be your OT Pokemon)
For the first legendary bird, you will need 15 of the corresponding Gems, the corresponding baby Pokémon with 100 or more IVS, and 100 or more evolution data.
For the second legendary bird, you will need 30 of the corresponding Gems, the corresponding baby Pokémon with 120 or more IVS, and 200 or more evolution data.
For the third, and final, legendary bird, you will need 100 of the corresponding Gems, the corresponding baby Pokémon with 140 or more IVS, and 335 or more evolution data.
To catch them, you will need to go to their respective islands with the baby Pokémon that corresponds with them and with the required amount of Gems. Speak with the Elder’s of each island and give them the Pokémon and the Gems. The Pokémon given will not be returned.
After giving the Pokémon and Gems, the legendary bird will spawn. Make sure you have a Synchronize Pokémon and enough Pokéballs. Using a Master Ball is widely recommended to avoid any mishaps and to guarantee the capture.
