Route 2

Viridian Forest is a Kanto area that’s interlocated between Viridian City and Pewter City.

As a subsegment of Route 2, it is intraposed in the middle of it and thus accessible therein. The sprawling forest is impassable en route to the succesionally first Kanto gym in Pewter City; however, once Cut has been acquired, this area will be bypassable through the right segment of Route 2.

This is considered the most potent overall pre-Brock training area for wild Pokémon, and it is considered a viable hunting grounds for lineup-preparative construction for the gym, too, as it is inhabited by a Grass-type Pokémon in Budew to effectively deploy against him.

Points of Interest

Viridian Maze

Main article: Viridian Maze

Northwards of the Cheri Berry-tree allotment in the northwestern pathway winding from the southern terminus, Viridian Maze can be entered from the underbrush.

As a tortuous maze subjoined to the forest, more commodities are rewardable here; this includes an abandoned-Pokémon Pokéball (it will yield either Growlithe, Horsea, or Bellsprout—all at equalized odds), EV-reductive berry-tree allotments, and Kanto’s Headbutt move tutor.

Stolen Pidgey mini-quest

Speak to Jerry nearby the Cheri Berry-tree allotment; he will apprise you that his Pidgey has been abducted by a Team Rocket agent who ran off into Viridian Maze, and he will purvey a free Escape Rope to you should you need it to expeditiously exit the maze.

After entering Viridian Maze, snake your way westwards to the Team Rocket grunt, who will challenge you to a battle; contingent upon winning, he will disappear and relinquish the Pidgey, who will fly back to its rightful owner.

15 Pokéballs will be reaped from Jerry for the deed, thereby supplementing your inventory with a batch of free Pokéballs while hunting for Pokémon early on.

Honey Tree

Main article: Honey Tree

The Honey Tree in Viridian Forest is located in the north-east portion of Viridian Forest. By spreading Honey onto the tree, a random wild Pokemon will appear, and the tree will enter a cooldown of 24 hours. This Honey Tree is categorized as a Bug tree; spreading Honey to multiple Bug Honey Trees in a row will reward with stronger Bug type Pokemon.
