Veilstone City is a Sinnoh city located between Route 214 and Route 215. The Team Galactic HQ is built inside the city, making it a prime story location.
Veilstone City is one of the biggest cities, being the one where the region’s Department Store, Veilstone Department Store is built in. It also has its own gym, however the city is lacking outside of that. The Casino is empty of any feature, and the few NPCs that do anything are redundant and not worth the trouble to seek out.
Notable miscellanies
Team Galactic Encounter
After completing the Veilstone Gym, Dawn will ask the player for help, saying her Pokédex got stolen by Team Galactic. She will wait for the player in front of the Team Galactic Warehouse, which is in the north-west of the city.
Once there, the player will have to fight one of the Galactic Grunts, which will have a level 25 Drapion. With the fight done, the encounter will be done and Dawn will suggest the player to go to the next city, Pastoria City.
Team Galactic HQ
Main article: Team Galactic HQ
After talking to Barry in Lake Acuity, the next objective will be at Team Galactic HQ, the large stylized building in the north-east. However, before raiding the HQ, it will be necessary to speak to the Grunt in front of the building, who will fight the player with high leveled Bisharp and Drifblim.
Upon defeating him, he will give the password, which allows access into the Galactic Warehouse, the small building west of the HQ where Dawn’s Pokedex was previously recovered. The warehouse being connected on the underground to the HQ, this is where the Team Galactic HQ raid begins.
Veilstone Department Store
Main article: Veilstone Department Store
Veilstone Department Store is the only department store in Sinnoh, being the most complete store. On top of all kinds of Pokéballs and curative items, it also sells TMs, Evolution stones and EV boosting Proteins.
Pokemon Massage Therapist Cindy
The Pokemon Massage Therapist Cindy is located in the second house south-east from the gym. She will increase the happiness of any Pokémon by a random amount between 1 and 10 once a day and for the price of 2,500. Given that this feature is given for free at Goldenrod City and that it is very easy to gain happiness from battles, her services are not worth the price and should be ignored.
Hidden Power Identifier
In the south-eastmost building, one of the NPCs will tell which type a Pokémon’s Hidden Power is. However, considering that Psychic Gene, which is in every single Pokemon Center, does the exact same job, there is no reason to go specifically to Veilstone’s Hidden Power Identifier.

Veilstone Gym
Veilstone’s Gym layout is fairly different compared to other gyms. As explained by the Cue Ball at the beginning, there are 6 trainers, and only two of them has a scroll. The player can then choose which trainer to fight, and can challenge the Gym Leader once he or she has obtained the two scrolls. Which two trainers have a scroll is randomized.
Upon defeating Maylene, the gym-greeter will start acting as a Move Tutor and will teach Focus Blast to any compatible Pokémon for the price of 12,000.

Maylene
Maylene is the Fighting type specialist of Sinnoh. Similar to a previous Gym Leader of the region, her team becomes stronger as the battle goes on, starting with weakers Meditite and Tyrogue, then finishing with her signature Pokémon, Lucario. For each of her type weaknesses, she packs two moves amongst her lineup that is super effective against that type, so one must remain careful. The most efficient type would however be Flying, as it should easily be able to defeat all Pokémons in one hit up to Lucario. In particular, Lucario won’t be able to do anything if that Pokémon also has a secondary typing of Water or Fire.
