Sunyshore City is a Sinnoh city located between Route 222 and Route 223. However, an old man will prevent the player from going to Route 223 until the local gym has been completed. And other than completing this gym, there isn’t much to do in the city.

Sunyshore Gym

Sunyshore Gym’s second puzzle room with numbered switches and affected walls displayed by color

Sunyshore’s gym looks similar to Mauville City‘s gym, however it is a bit different. The two puzzle rooms of Sunyshore work very differently. The first one simply requires the player to beat both players before being able to move on to the next room.

The second puzzle room is a switch puzzle just like Mauville’s gym, however much more consistant. Each switch, which look like trash cans, will toggle on and off two walls, with no switch overlapping over another. The northmost switch, however, will deactivate all walls, while the green switch in the south-east corner will reset the puzzle. The solution, using the walkthrough map, is as follow:

  • 1 => 2 => 1 => 3 => 1 => 4

The gym-greeter will not start selling or teaching any move after defeating Volkner

Volkner

Volkner is the final gym leader of Sinnoh and certainly the strongest of all Electric gym leaders. His only weakness may be Ground, but 3 of his Pokémons know a move super effective against that type, and are also very likely to outspeed Pokémons of that type. His Pokémons also have a very diversified movepool in which almost all Pokémons will eventually have to face a Super effective move. However, his starter Pokémon has one usable flaw. Jolteon‘s Double Kick, even on a super effective hit, will deal very low damage due to its low base power and Jolteon‘s low physical prowess. As such, Pokémons that are weak to Fighting may find it easy to set-up on Jolteon and proceed to sweep the rest of Volkner’s team.
