Seafloor Cavern is an underwater cave located in the middle of Route 128 Underwater. This place is the next story location after completing Mossdeep City‘s gym and accepting Steven’s request. The cavern can however only be entered during that moment, and once the cavern has been completed, it is no longer possible to reenter. Fortunately, the only valuable item that can be picked is in the way.

To enter and complete the Seafloor Cavern, it will be necessary to prepare three moves: Surf, Dive and Rock Smash.

Seafloor Cavern Quest

After accepting Steven’s request and entering Seafloor Cavern, the goal will be, just like back in Magma Hideout, to simply reach the furthest room and trigger the events in front of Kyogre. However, there will be a few puzzles throughout the cave, although very simple.

R1 to R4

The first four rooms link to each other in a slightly illogical way. As such, each entrance lead to the following:

  • R1: North leads to R4, East leads to R2, South leads to the Entrance.
  • R2: North leads to R1, South and East leads to R3.
  • R3: North-west and Center leads to R2, North-east leads to R4, South leads to the entrance
  • R4: South-west leads to R3, South-east leads to R1, North-west leads to R5, North-east leads to R6.

To progress, it is however as simple as going directly north all the time. R4 will however be blocked by rocks, which is why it is necessary to bring Rock Smash beforehand.

R5 and R6

North of R4 are two entrances, both leading to a different Water Slider puzzle. Both lead to R7 after entering the northern entrance, however R5 has an extra entrance in the middle which returns to the Entrance.

To solve R5, follow the indications:

  • Enter any arrow tile at the entrance.
  • Right
  • Right
  • Left

If the arrows leading to the center entrance is taken, it is possible to simply keep going left instead of entering the entrance and being sent back to Seafloor Cave Entrance.

To solve R6, simply take the southmost arrow at the entrance, then go north while avoiding every single arrow. Even if any other arrow was taken, it is fairly simple and not possible to take a wrong turn.

R7

Coming back for the first time in Hoenn, there will be two patrollers Grunts. If they see the player, they will throw him or her back at the beginning of R6 or at the north end of R1, depending on which of the two patrollers discovered the player. They are however very simple to sneak by.

R9

The final room will have an encounter with Aqua Admin Matt. His Pokémons are estimated to be level 70, and as such it is recommended to heal before the fight. Once defeated, he will teleport the player back to the surface and it will no longer be possible to reenter the cave. With the Seafloor Cavern quest completed, the next story objective will be in Sootopolis City
