Route 39
Route 40 Olivine City

Olivine City is a Johto city located between Route 39 and Route 40. It is most notably the harbor city of the Johto region, from which it is possible to travel to all the other regions, as well as the extra location Dock Island.

On its south-east is located the Glitter Lighthouse, a tall building that must be visited for the Johto story, as the gym leader will be absent and waiting at its top floor.

Notable miscellanies

Olivine Harbor

Olivine is home to the harbor where it is possible to travel to other regions, at the condition that the player has completed the Johto Elite Four as well as the Elite Four of the region he or she wishes to travel to. The fee will be 5,000, unless the player has an active Transit Pass.

Dock Island

Main article: Dock Island

On top of the regional harbors, the option to travel to Dock Island is also given in Olivine only. Travelling there is free, however just like other options, it is necessary to have completed the Johto Elite Four.

This island is an extra, optional area aimed for higher level players. It is also home to the Amazon Forest.

Iron Tail Tutors

There are two Move Tutor for the move Iron Tail that can be found in Olivine City.

The first one, found in the restaurant immediately west of the Pokémon Center, will teach the move to any Pokémon that could learn it through TM for the price of 15,000.

The second one, found at the end of the vertical road east of the Pokémart, will teach the move to any Pokémon that could instead learn it through Move Tutor for the reduced price of 13,000. As such, it is better to first check if the Pokémon can learn it through this NPC before trying the other.

Super Rod

In the house directly north of the Pokémart is located the Super Rod vendor. He will sell it for the price of 75,000, on the condition that the player already has bought the Good Rod back in Fuchsia City.

Fishing hats

In the same house as the Super Rod vendor, a Youngster will sell cosmetic hats, on the condition that the player has an active Membership.

Items Price
White Fish Hat 55,000
Brown Fish Hat 55,000
Black Fish Hat 55,000

Abandoned Pokémon

An Abandoned Pokémon can be found on a small shore that is accessible by surfing east from the harbor’s bridge. Picking the blue pokeball will provide the player with a level 25 Staryu. It is to note that this particular Abandoned Pokémon is hinted at by a Fisherman inside the city’s restaurant.

Voltorb Trader

There is an NPC Trader further east of the Glitter Lighthouse who will trade his Voltorb for the player’s Krabby. The Voltorb will be initialized at level 20 and will be holding a Magnet.

Caught Date Checker

Another special NPC in the restaurant west of the Pokémon Center is the Caught Date Checker. He will determine the exact time a Pokémon as been caught at.

PvP Coin Master

Main article: PvP Coins

Kanto‘s iteration of the PvP Coin Master will exchange prizes in return for PvP Coins—a currency that is attained from winning ranked PvP battles.

Legendary Reroll

Hidden next to the gym is Psychic Marina, an NPC that appears on each Harbor. She will reroll the IV points or Nature of any Legendary Pokémon for a Reroll Ticket or Nature Reroll Ticket, respectively. This is particularly useful if a Legendary Pokémon has received bad IVs or Nature, however there is no guarantee that it will become better; in fact, it is possible to reroll the exact same Nature.

Mysterious Cultist

The Mysterious Cultist is located directly north of the Vermilion Gym. Once in a while, a World Quest will be triggered, in which all players in the server must hunt a specific given Pokemon and sacrifice them to the Cultist. Scores are based on total IVs of the Pokemon, and both an individual and server scores are accumulated with each sacrificed Pokemon. Participation awards up to 2 Mysterious Tickets, depending on if individual and server quotas were reached.

Olivine Gym

The Olivine Gym will be blocked by a police officer, who informs that Jasmine is as the lighthouse. He will not let the player pass until the Jasmine Quest at Glitter Lighthouse has been completed.

The gym’s layout is certainly the most simple of all gyms; it is only a straight path to the gym leader, and the trainers won’t fight, saying that the player proved himself or herself at the lighthouse.

Upon defeating Jasmine, the Gym-greeter will start acting as a Move Tutor, teaching the move Iron Head to any compatible Pokémon for the price of 10,000.

Jasmine

Jasmine is the Steel type specialist, and her team will surely prove to be the one of the hardest battles of Johto. On top of using the best defensive type, all her Pokémons will attack with some of the strongest moves. For her three first Pokémons, it is best to use an Electric Pokémon that carry a super effective move against Steel, such as Ampharos with Fire Punch. However, that Pokémon will not last against her Steelix, for which it is suggested instead to switch to a Water type Pokémon that will attack on the Special side.
