Granite Cave Route 106

Granite Cave is a Hoenn cave located in Route 106. It is particularly known for being the place to deliver the letter to Steven during the story.

The two underground floors are shrouded in darkness, as such it is recommended to bring a Flash Pokémon. Unlike in the original games, there is also no shortcut back to the entrance after reaching 1F2, the deepest room of the cave. Fortunately, there is a respawnable Escape Rope provided immediately at the beginning of the cave.

Notable miscellanies

Letter to Steven Quest

The main interest of visiting the Granite Cave is Steven, who is in 1F2. The 1F2 room can only be reached by going all the way down to B2F, then finding the two ladders that lead directly back to the upper platform of 1F.

After talking to him, he will take the letter received from Mr. Stone in Rustboro City‘s Devon Corporation building, and then leave the cave. It will then be possible to enter Dewford Town‘s gym, as well as complete the quest in Rustboro City by talking again to Mr. Stone.

Drill Run Tutor

A Move Tutor for the move Drill Run is located in the north-west corner of Granite Cave B1F. He will teach the move to any compatible Pokémon for the price of 6,000.

Abandoned Pokémon

There is an Abandoned Pokémon in the north-west corner of B2F, which can be reached by taking the first ladder on the northern path in B1F. Taking the blue pokeball will provide the player with a level 5 Onix. It will also be holding a Protein.
