Canalave City Route 218

Canalave City is a Sinnoh city located west of Route 218. Being the harbor of the Sinnoh region, it is possible to return to other regions or sail to Iron Island by talking to Sailor Danny.

On top of Barry and the local gym, there are a few NPCs coming back from previous regions, such as the PvP coin trader, making it one of the biggest city of the region.

Notable miscellanies

Barry

When first arriving to Canalave City, Barry will be blocking the bridge. He will fight the player with a team that varies depending on the player’s starter choice: On top of a Staraptor and his newly addition, a Heracross, he will have one pokemon of each starter type, with one of them being the final evolution of the starter strong against the player’s starter, and the two others being either Floatzel, Roserade or Rapidash. He shouldn’t be underestimated, as his team is estimated to be level 60.

Win or lose, he will leave after the fight, making it impossible to rechallenge him.

After completing the city’s gym, Barry will appear at the exit. He will ask the player to come at the library, which is the north-westmost building. Following Barry to the top floor, Professor Rowan will be there and ask the player to head to Lake Valor, which is located midway between Veilstone City and Pastoria City.

Canalave Harbor

Canalave is home to the harbor where it is possible to travel to other regions, at the condition that the player has completed the Sinnoh Elite Four as well as the Elite Four of the region he or she wishes to travel to. The fee will be 5,000, unless the player has an active Transit Pass.

Iron Island

Main article: Iron Island

On top of the regional harbors, the option to travel to Iron Island is also given in Canalave only. Travelling there is free, and there are no condition that the player must fulfill in order to travel there. Barry even suggests training there if the player lost to him in his Canalave City encounter.

PvP Coin Master

Main article: PvP Coins

Kanto‘s iteration of the PvP Coin Master will exchange prizes in return for PvP Coins—a currency that is attained from winning ranked PvP battles.

Caught Date Checker

The Caught Data Checker is located in the Pokemon Center. He will determine the exact time a Pokémon has been caught at.

Cooldown Checkers

In the south-eastmost house are located both the Boss Cooldown Checker and the Extra Cooldown Checker.

The Boss Cooldown Checker will state whether or not each individual boss is available to fight or not, and if they are not available, how much time remaining there is before the player can fight them again.

The Extra Cooldown Checker will check the following:

  • Battle Tower
  • Bug Contest
  • Sinnoh Underground
  • Transit Pass (How much time remaining if it is active)

Mysterious Cultist

The Mysterious Cultist is located in the north-east corner of the city. Once in a while, a World Quest will be triggered, in which all players in the server must hunt a specific given Pokemon and sacrifice them to the Cultist. Scores are based on total IVs of the Pokemon, and both an individual and server scores are accumulated with each sacrificed Pokemon. Participation awards up to 2 Mysterious Tickets, depending on if individual and server quotas were reached.

Canalave Gym

Canalave City’s Gym layout is a multi-floor maze. There are multiple platforms with yellow ones moving one floor up or down, and red ones moving in a straight line within the same floor. The only exceptions are the north-west one on the 1st floor which is a one-way from Byron’s floor, and the center north one of the 1st floor which brings the player up 3 floors to Byron’s floor, making it the destination.

Following the Walkthrough maps, the way to Byron is fairly simple. After taking the ‘D’ platform, the way will be a single path up to 3F. On 3F, take the west platform, then the northmost platform and the rest of the path will be a single path again up to Byron.

The gym-greeter does not sell or teach any move after defeating Byron. Although he suggests to go to the next gym, there will be story events to do beforehand.

Byron

Byron is the second gym leader to specialize in the Steel type. And unlike previous Gym leaders of the region, he does not hold back, having a full team of 5 fully evolved Pokemons knowing some of the best moves. With almost all of his team potentially having Sturdy, Fire type Pokémons are discouraged as they will take back many super effective moves in return. Steel and Fighting types are thus the best choice of Pokemons, as they will not take back super effective moves on a Sturdy trigger. However, they both have to be careful of Bronzong due to its Psychic typing and its potential Levitate. His last Pokémon, Aggron, also have a large chance of killing the player’s Pokémon with a Sturdy plus either Avalanche or Metal Burst. Although at that point, any Pokémon can take the remaining HP down and snatch the win.
