Mahogany Town Rocket Hideout is a Team Rocket hideout located under the Souvenir Shop of Mahogany Town. Initially blocked by an NPC, it is necessary to talk to Chappy in Lake Of Rage before being able to enter the Hideout.
The Mahogany gym is blocked, with the reason being because of the suspicious activities happening in that Rocket Hideout. As such, it will be necessary to clear the hideout in order to progress in Johto‘s story.
Once Mahogany Town Rocket Hideout has been cleared, it will not be possible to return back into it. Fortunately, there is no item in the hideout, as such all that can be missed are trainer battles.
Mahogany Town Rocket Hideout Quest
The stairs to the hideout will first be blocked by an NPC. In order to get him out of the way, it is necessary to speak to Chappy, who is standing in the middle of Lake Of Rage. With that NPC out of the way, it will now be possible to enter the hideout, with the objective of discovering and putting an end to the suspicious activities happening in there.
Objective 1: Speak with Lance
Starting at the first floor, there is nothing interesting but an horde of Grunts with nearly the same Pokémons. Unlike in the original games, there is no switch to press in order to prevent the reinforcements. However, there’s also no forced encounters when stepping on the checkered floor on the west, making it the quickest route.
When arriving at the second floor, Lance will be standing in the way to a seemingly important room from its different floor color, and it will be necessary to speak to him before moving on any other path.
Objective 2: Hack the two computers
Lance informs the player that the room is filled with mines. To deactivate them, it is necessary to go access a computer that is guarded. To get these guards out of the way, it is necessary to send them a message via two different computers. Lance specifies that the first one is somewhere on their current floor, and that the second one is in a room with 8 computers, with the correct computer being the one with an Admin Christina picture on its desk.
The closest one will be the second mentionned computer, as the room is right next to the stairs to B3F. It is easily recognizable by its very bizarre crew. The correct computer is randomized, as such it is necessary to examine them one by one until finding the correct computer.
The second computer is on the north path of the second floor, which is accessible by going on the north-east of B3F. There are two computers, both guarded by Jessie and James, and the correct computer will also be randomized between the two. Jessie being directly below the stairs, it is recommended to try her’s first, as James is further beyond patrolling Rocket Grunts who will send the player back outside the building on sight.
Objective 3: Deactivate the bombs
With both computers hacked, the Rocket grunts guarding the main computer will be gone. That room is next to the stairs going to James in B3F. However, Admin Christina and her Pokémons will be barricading in the room, and it will be necessary to defeat her in order to access the computer. Her full team is spoiled before even starting the fight, and her Pokémons are estimated to be level 40.
After defeating her, all there is left to do is to examine the computer in the back in order to deactivate the bombs in the room Lance was guarding.
Objective 4: Stop the machine
With the bombs deactivated, Lance will no longer be blocking the way to the center room of B2F. Lance will now be on the east side of that room, fighting the Electrodes. If he is approached, he will say he’s taking care of that side and that the player should take care of the other side, without actually explaining why the Electrodes have to be taken care of.
There are three Electrodes to defeat, and each are estimated to be level 60, as such they shouldn’t be underestimated. Once all three are defeated, Lance will ask to come back down at the entrance, which will warp the player back to the Pokémon Center, putting an end to the Mahogany Town Rocket Hideout quest and unblocking the town’s gym.
