Moon is an area accessible from Hoenn. During its story, it will be from the top of Sky Pillar. However, after leaving it, it won’t be possible to visit again until completing the Hoenn Elite Four. After it has been completed, it can be visited again from Mossdeep City Space Station, although at the fee of 15,000 per travel.

The Moon is known for being the location to encounter Deoxys. Since it is a very hard encounter, Pokémons are usually prepared specifically for this battle. It is also useful to bring a Flash Pokémon as its deepest floor is in the dark.

Notable miscellanies

Deoxys

The first time on the Moon, the objective will be to find Deoxys, who is waiting in the middle of the main floor. To reach him, it will be necessary to go through the moon clockwise. Once in the south-east dark part, there will be a path that leads toward the center-north, which exit leads to Deoxys.

Deoxys is similar to Giovanni’s Mewtwo back in Viridian City. With a level estimated to be level 100, most Pokémons will not have any chance at attacking. The most often recommended strategy is to take a low level Sturdy Pokémon such as Geodude, teach it Toxic and poison Deoxys while stalling with healing items. If you do not have a Toxic TM, you can find one in Fiery Path or buy one from another player through Trade Chat. Although unreliable, it is also possible to attempt getting a Toxic with a Pokémon like Roselia and Swalot while holding a Quick Claw. Another strategy is to bring many Pokémons with Sucker Punch such as Cacturne and Mightyena, guaranteeing up to 6 super effective hits. Going at it defensively is not recommended, as even an Eviolite Dusclops will barely survive a normal effective Psychic, while no available Pokémon can survive all of its moves.

With Deoxys defeated, all there is remaining is to find Rayquaza. He will be in a random location within B1F, but only within the very small rooms. After speaking to it, the player will be returned to Sootopolis City, and it won’t be possible to visit the Moon again until after defeating the Hoenn Elite Four.
