Hearthome City is a Sinnoh city that intersects between Route 208, Route 209 and Route 212 North. Barry will be waiting at the Route 209 exit, while NPCs will be blocking Route 212 North until the player completes Veilstone City‘s gym. The city also leads to Amity Square on the north.

Despite being one of the biggest cities of Sinnoh, the place is lacking in major features compared to major cities of other regions. Contests not being implemented in PRO, the Super Contest Hall is closed. There is however a few Move Tutors, as well as Barry and the gym to fight.

Notable miscellanies

Barry

When first arriving to Hearthome City, Barry will be blocking the path to Route 209. He will fight the player with a team that varies depending on the player’s starter choice: On top of a Staravia, he will have one pokemon of each starter type, with one of them being the second evolution of the starter strong against the player’s starter, and the two others being either Buizel, Roselia or Ponyta.

Move Tutors

Rotom Evolution Move Tutor

A Move Tutor specialized for Rotom can be found blocking the Super Contest Hall in the center north of the city. He will teach one of the moves Rotom normally learns upon changing form for the price of 12,000. The moves are as follow:

  • Rotom-Heat: Overheat
  • Rotom-Wash: Hydro Pump
  • Rotom-Frost: Blizzard
  • Rotom-Fan: Air Slash
  • Rotom-Mow: Leaf Storm

Role Play Tutor

A Move Tutor for the move Role Play can be found in the Pokémon Fan Club, the first house east of the Pokemart. He will teach the move to any compatible Pokémon for the price of 12,000.

Caught Date Checker

The Caught Data Checker is located in the Pokemon Center. He will determine the exact time a Pokémon as been caught at.

Hearthome Gym

The gym will initially be blocked by an NPC saying Fantina is currently away. She will come back after completing the Team Galactic Encounter in Celestic Town.

The gym’s layout is a maze in darkness, as such it is recommended to bring Flash. There are two rooms, and each of the rooms has multiple doors. Most of them will bring the player back to the entrance, while only one will bring the player to the next room. However, the second room also has two doors that are connected to each other. The correct doors are as follow:

  • 1st room: east-most door.
  • 2nd room: west-most door (teleports to the east-most door).
  • 2nd room: west-most accessible door.

The gym-greeter does not start selling or teaching any move after defeating Fantina. However, Fantina will tell the player the next destination, being to visit the library in Canalave City.

Fantina

Fantina is a Ghost type specialist, and as such, can prove difficult to take down without the right Pokémons. Her two weaknesses are her own type as well as Dark. Fighting her with a Ghost Pokémon is certainly risky, as it means she is also strong against that Pokémon. However fortunately, she does not have anything super effective to Dark type. A Normal type Pokémon can also bring key immunity to her main type, as long as they have offensive attacks of different types as her Pokémons are also immune to Normal. Finally, her strongest two Pokémons, Gengar and Mismagius, are particularly frail against physical attacks, making physical attackers particularly efficient, especially if they know the move Sucker Punch.
